Timeline
Over the years, we've been dedicated to the sustainable development of Cascada El Pailón, purposely enhancing the visitor experience while preserving the natural beauty. From the creation of gravel pathways to the construction of stone balconies and a reliable suspension bridge, each milestone marks our commitment to environmental responsibility. Join us as we continue to innovate and improve, ensuring that our unique waterfall park remains a breathtaking destination for all.

In the late 1990s, Donald Wolfram felt a profound calling to journey to the Río Verde region, where he took the initiative to safeguard the lands that harbor the enchanting waterfalls.
Natural Pathways

We've dedicated considerable time to designing pathways that harmonize with nature, ensuring a delightful experience for everybody. As you meander around the corners, you'll be surrounded by exotic plants and might even catch a glimpse of howler monkeys or the unique cock-of-the-rock bird, native to this area.
Come and enjoy the trails!

Antenna Tower

2010 - Driven by increasing visitor interest, an outdated antenna tower was acquired from the radio station HCJB and transported from Pifo to Río Verde. The installation posed a significant challenge, but ultimately, the tower was successfully set up next to the ravine, providing much easier access to the waterfall.
Stone Balconies

2011 - Steel reinforced balconies are added offering scenic viewpoints, key for photographers.

2012 - Additional stone steps and a few more balconies are added to the passageway beneath the rock ledge and next to the waterfall.
Reinforced Cables

2013 -The descent to the waterfall is greatly facilitated with the construction of a large suspension bridge.
Suspension Bridge

This is one of the most distinctive suspension bridges in the world, standing out for its asymmetrical design, sloping downhill at an angle of 18 to 20 degrees, in contrast to the conventional symmetrical structure.
Visitors are treated to panoramic views of the rainforest canopy and the magnificent waterfall granting an enriching experience.

The Main Attraction
El Pailón del Diablo - This is the most renowned waterfall in Ecuador, created by the Río Verde river as it cascades into the Pastaza River after its drop. The waterfall is celebrated for its strong flow and great turbulence as it plunges between 265 and 300 feet into a bubbling cauldron below. It's truly amazing!
In 2000, the action thriller "Proof of Life" showcased stunning scenes filmed in Río Verde. One notable scene with actor David Morse was shot above the Pastaza river, featuring the breathtaking Pailón del Diablo waterfall as a backdrop. Directed by Taylor Hackford, the film stars Russell Crowe & Meg Ryan. (Released by Warner Bros. Pictures and filmed mainly on locations in Ecuador)
